Interschool Winter Cup 2005
28.01.2005 - "Lia Manoliu" Olympic Arena
The Inter-School Winter Cup 2005 came into being at the initiative of Orange Group Romania. There was need for a competition between all the private schools in Romania, which have seen a great increase in their enrollment in the last couple of years. The children's passion for sports, combined with the organizers' efforts, paved the way for a great outcome of the contest. The first step was taken in September 2004, when the first event took place. Inter-School Football Cup 2004 was a success because of the number of participants, and because of the overall contest atmosphere. Nevertheless, many children with special sports abilities-girls especially-- could not participate in the football championship. Therefore, a couple of months later, a new contest was in place; a contest with many more participants because of the diversity of events and of age groups. Our school took part in organizing both competitions; Andrei Manu, our physical education teacher, is part of the organizing board. The 20 children selected from Mark Twain International School won 10 medals out of a total of 27, wining the Junior Competition. They also won the most first, second, and third places in the individual competitions. However, classification is not what was important, but the fact that students from 8 different schools got to know the pleasure of competing and of fair-play.
