Ballet at MTIS
Mark Twain is a school aimed at children who want to benefit from a high-standard international education. Besides offering its students a thorough knowledge of all the subjects included in the curriculum, it also offers them various opportunities of developping their physical and intellectual skills in other fields - such as the artistic one - as well. These opportunities have not yet been sufficiently explored by the Romanian school system.
Thus, our school offers a series of special courses, such as the ballet program addressed to different categories of students. I have the pleasure of introducing this program to you. What follows is a general description of this program, which is suitable for any student attending our school, irrespective of his or her previous ballet experience.
Aim
The aim of this program is to offer the children possibilities for:
• a harmonious physical development as well as the development of rhytmic movement abilities;
• developing musical abilities and building up some solid knowledge of music and ballet elements;
• developing physical abilities at a professional level and even outlining future artistic careers in this field.
General goal
By offering the ballet and dancesport program, our aim is to prepare future generations of students who will be able to master high-level cultural elements and a special behavior which will contribute to a solid educational background.
A general approach
The ballet program is made up of three types of courses which will lead to the discovery of the dance, both as a recreational means or physical shape-up, and a personal artistic expression, or as a future potential profession. These courses are especially meant to meet the parents’ requirements by listing and cultivating the children’s artistic talents, thus, sucessfully contributing to the formation of a special education. The courses aim to obtain both excellency-level abilities in the art of dancing, and educate students to work in a competitive, disciplined environment.
Special attention will be given to the development of creativity and grace under professional guidance offered by qualified, experienced personnel. The program will consist of weekly courses - two 45 minutes-classes per week.
Group organization
There will be courses for pre-school and elementary school children. The group placement will not be based on age or previous experience, but on an evaluation of the student’s natural talent made upon enrollment by the course coordinator. At the end of each year/course, each student will be given an assessment of his/her performances as well as a recommendation for the course/group he/she should follow the next year. The student’s fast, obvious progress in this field will be a natural effect of rigorous course attendance.
Evaluations
The students will benefit from evaluations upon enrollment, during the school year, as well as at the end of the course. At the end of the course, special diplomas (where talents and performances will be certified) will be handed to students with outstanding progress in the field.
Special events
There will be a performance show at the end of each year. This show will offer the students the opportunity to demonstrate their special talents and progress in the field.
