Why Breakdance?

Because "gestures accompanied by music and acrobatics" doesn’t sound practical for children between 8 and 10. In the beginning, there were only two students, Felix Amza and Ghev Jaghynian. Other skilled children have been selected along the way.

The basic training of the gymnasts’ group is done all through the school year and the choreography for the school festivals is prepared 6 to 8 weeks before the show. The MTIS students' increasing interest made me loosen the selection background, and go from difficult acrobatics to attractive movements, according to the rhythm of the music and to each student’s physical qualities. That’s how "shake-dance" has appeared in Western Europe. It is a new kind of dance, which includes spectacular breakdance movements and individual or group stage movements, and where the rhythm, the attitude and the sense of music play the main part.

There are weekly "Breakdance or Shakedance Contests" which are attended by an increasing number of students. New talents keep joining in, and they are more than welcome to do so.
