It's all Rhythm!
Children are always drawn to the sound of drums and we often hear them say: "I want to play the drums!". This is what is often perceived as percussion, percussion instruments or, as I often see in my students' papers, hitting instruments.
Initially, we started this extracurricular program to introduce the children to the magical world of rhythm and to the vast family of percussion instruments, starting with the deciphering of written rhythmic music and ending with the students creating their own rhythms. At the same time, they learn the characteristics of percussion instruments from all over the world, uncovering, of course, the techniques used in performing them.
Being that we have a very large selection of percussion instruments, each with its own distinct sound, we figured we’d make up our own new sounds. This is how we found unusual percussion instruments such as: metal barrels, basketballs, plastic barrels, pots, plastic bottles…and basically every object with which we can create a sound.
Our band, Crash came to life because of our desire to share the secrets of rhythm with our friends. After many rehearsals and a lot of hard work, we are now present at every school event, and our shows—which include music, dance, theater and lights - represent our contagious happy mood.
I could tell you a whole lot more about us but, being that rhythm can only be felt and not explained, we are gladly waiting for you to discover for yourself the beautiful sounds of Crash!
